Custom websites built to convert. Built to rank. Built to last.

Melbourne web design and WordPress development for small and medium businesses. Sites that bring in real leads, rank on Google from launch, and grow with you for years — not the eighteen months until you outgrow your template.

What good web design actually delivers

A website is the hardest-working employee in your business. Built right, it never stops.

A great website earns its keep. It ranks for the terms your customers search for. It explains what you do clearly enough that visitors decide to act. It loads fast on a phone in poor reception. It captures enquiries while you sleep. It makes the buying decision easier — not harder. And it does all of that month after month, year after year, without needing to be rebuilt every eighteen months because the platform fell apart.

That’s the version of web design our clients experience. Sites we built five, six, seven years ago are still running, still ranking, still bringing in business. Some have evolved gradually as the business grew. Others have been deliberately left close to the original because they were built right the first time.

It’s also the version that’s increasingly rare. Most web design today falls into one of two camps: cheap templates that look fine on day one and crumble within a year, or expensive design-led builds that look beautiful but were never structured to rank, convert, or be edited by the people who actually own the business.

Digital Attraction sits in neither camp. We build custom WordPress websites — not templates, not page builders — designed around the way your business actually makes money, structured for SEO from the foundation up, and built so you can run them yourself without needing a developer for every text change.

How we build

Five principles. Every site, every time.

Every website we build is shaped around the specifics of your business — but five principles run through all of them.

01 Custom WordPress (no page builders)

We build custom WordPress themes, hand-coded around your business. No Elementor, no Divi, no WPBakery, no template marketplaces. Page builders feel convenient until you realise they slow your site to a crawl, lock you into bloated plugin ecosystems, and quietly cost you Google rankings. Hand-coded WordPress is faster, lighter, and ages better — exactly what you want for a site you're going to live with for five-plus years.

02 Conversion-first

Every page has a job. The home page introduces the business and routes visitors. The service pages convert qualified prospects. The contact page captures the enquiry. The about page builds trust. We design every page around what it needs to do — not around what looks impressive in a portfolio shot.

03 Mobile-first

Most of your customers are on a phone. So we design for the phone first, then scale up to desktop. That sounds obvious, but most agencies still design desktop first and squeeze the layout down for mobile as an afterthought. The result is sites that work fine on a 27-inch monitor and break down on a phone in landscape. We do the opposite.

04 SEO built in from the foundation

Proper site structure. Semantic HTML. Schema markup. Fast loading. Image optimisation. Logical URL structures. Internal linking. Yoast SEO configured per page with proper meta titles and descriptions. All of this gets baked in during the build, not bolted on afterwards. Sites we build rank on Google from launch — because the technical SEO foundations are in place from day one.

05 Built to manage

You don't want to call a developer every time you need to update an opening hour or publish a blog post. Every site we build is structured with clean editable text boxes in the WordPress admin for everything visible on the site. You edit content. We handle code changes. The boundary is clear, and you're never stuck.

What's included

What's in a Digital Attraction website build.

Every website project is custom-scoped, but across every build, you can expect:

  • Custom WordPress theme — hand-coded, not a template, not a page builder
  • Mobile-first responsive design — works cleanly on every device, every screen size
  • Conversion-focused page structure — every page designed around its job
  • Editable content via WordPress admin — clean text boxes, no code required
  • SEO foundations — schema markup, semantic HTML, fast loading, Yoast configured
  • Contact forms — real lead capture with email notifications and confirmations
  • Google Analytics 4 + Tag Manager — tracking set up so you actually know what’s working
  • WordPress admin training — a session showing you how to edit, publish, and manage
  • Managed hosting — every site we build, we host (more on that on our hosting page)
  • Strategic ownership from Nic — direction set by Head of Solutions, executed by our team

We don’t sell tiered packages. We scope each project around what your business actually needs — and pricing is custom and discussed in the strategy session.

What working with us looks like

From "we need a new website" to live site, simply.

Every web design project follows the same seven steps. Some take a week, some take six — depending on the project — but the sequence is consistent.

1. Strategy session

Free, thirty minutes, no obligation. We talk through your business, your goals, your audience, and what your current website is or isn’t doing. No slides. No pitch deck. An honest conversation about whether we’re a good fit.

2. Brief and proposal

If we’re a fit, we put together a proper brief — what the site needs to do, the structure, the content scope, the timeline, the price. No surprises later.

3. Design

We design the site to spec — clean, modern, on-brand, conversion-focused. You review key pages early so the direction is locked in before we get deep into building.

4. Build

The site is hand-coded as a custom WordPress theme. Custom fields are set up so you’ll be able to edit content yourself once it’s live. Mobile and desktop layouts are built in parallel, not bolted together.

5. Content

Content is loaded into the site — usually copy you’ve already written or that we’ve drafted as part of the project. We handle the layout, the imagery, the SEO meta tags, the structured data. You review and approve.

6. Launch

Final testing, redirects from your old site, Google Search Console submission, analytics setup, performance and security checks. The site goes live, and you get a quick training session on how to edit it yourself.

7. Ongoing management

Every site we build is hosted on our infrastructure with managed updates, backups, security monitoring, and ongoing support. We don’t hand you a finished site and disappear — we look after it for as long as you want us to.

What this looks like in practice

Real businesses. Real websites. Real results.

Below are three of our long-term web design partnerships — but they're a small sample. Our published portfolio runs to nine case studies, and there are more clients we haven't written up yet. The pattern across all of them: sites built once, kept running for years, results that compound.

Food Manufacturing & Wholesale · Melbourne

Full rebrand & redesign · 20+ B2B keywords ranking #1 · 3+ years sustained

A complete rebrand and redesign for a Melbourne dip manufacturer. From zero traffic to ranking #1 on more than twenty B2B wholesale keywords. Sustained for three-plus years.

Specialist Glass & Coatings · National

Two distinct websites · 1,000+ monthly visitors · 6+ years partnership

The shape of a good fit

What makes our partnerships work.

The strongest web design projects share a few traits — and most of our clients have nodded along to all of them in the strategy session:

  • You want a site that earns its keep. Not just looks good in a screenshot. A site designed around real customers, real conversion goals, and real business outcomes.
  • You want to edit your own content. No reliance on a developer for text changes, blog posts, or new pages. We build sites you can run yourself.
  • You’re willing to invest in custom over template. A Wix or Squarespace site can work for some businesses for some time. But if you’re planning to grow, rank competitively, and own the result for years, custom WordPress is the right call.
  • You appreciate ongoing care. Hosting, updates, security, backups, and someone you can call when something needs adjusting. Not “here’s your site, good luck.”
  • You want a partner, not just a builder. Someone who’ll still be there in year five when you want to add a new section, redesign the home page, or launch a sub-brand.

If most of those describe how you think about your business, we’ll likely click in the strategy session. If they don’t, we’ll talk it through and figure out together whether it’s a good fit. Either way, the conversation is free, useful, and short.

Honest answers

Frequently asked questions.

How long does a website project take?
Most builds run six to ten weeks from kick-off to live, depending on scope, content readiness, and how quickly feedback loops happen. Smaller sites can be faster; complex projects with custom integrations or large content migrations take longer. We give you a real timeline in the proposal — not a vague range.
How much does a WordPress website cost?
It varies based on scope — number of pages, custom functionality, content production, integration requirements. Some projects are smaller-scope rebuilds for established businesses with content already in place; others are full ground-up builds for new ventures with strategy, design, content, and launch all in scope. The strategy session is where we look at what your project actually needs and design something that fits your goals and your budget.
Will I be able to edit the site myself?
Yes. Every site we build is structured around editable content fields in the WordPress admin — you log in, see clean text boxes for every visible piece of content, edit, save, done. No code required, no developer needed for routine updates. We include a training session at handover so you're confident running the site from day one.
Do you build on Wix or Squarespace?
No. Wix and Squarespace work fine for very small or temporary sites, but they limit you when you want to grow — slower SEO performance, less control, harder to migrate away from later. Every site we build is custom WordPress, which gives you proper ownership, performance, and the ability to evolve the site as your business does.
What about hosting?
Every site we build is hosted on our managed Australian hosting infrastructure. Daily backups, SSL, security monitoring, malware scanning, and proper support. Hosting is included in the relationship — it's how we keep your site running cleanly without surprise downtime or security incidents. More detail on our hosting page at /services/hosting/.
Can you redesign my existing site?
Yes — this is a significant part of what we do. We take over from previous developers, audit the existing site, identify what's worth keeping and what needs to be rebuilt, and produce a redesign plan that improves rankings, conversions, and management without throwing away years of accumulated SEO equity.
Do you work with clients outside Melbourne?
Yes. We're based in Melbourne and most of our clients are local, but we've built and managed sites for businesses across Australia — including regional NT, Sydney, and national businesses operating across every state. Strategy sessions happen on Zoom, the work happens regardless of geography, and we're available by phone whenever you need us.
What happens after launch?
Every site we build is hosted and managed by us. That means ongoing updates, security monitoring, backups, performance monitoring, and a real human you can contact when something needs adjusting. We don't hand you a finished site and disappear — most of our web design clients are still with us five-plus years later.
